Green tea and weight loss are no-nonsense

Let's do a simple math:

1 pound (0.45 Kilograms) of FAT = ~3,500 calories

In order to lose one pound (0.45 kg) of fat within a week, one has to reduce an intake of 3,500 calories for one week.  Reducing the calories intake can be carried out by changing the diet, and/or exercise.  In this case, one has to reduce 500 calories per day in average.

Research by Japanese and other researchers suggest that if the average person were to drink five cups of green tea a day, they would burn an extra 70 to 80 extra calories through an effect known as thermogenesis, the process of heat production through metabolic stimulation.  Well-controlled research has also proven that a compound in green tea called epigallo-catechin gallate (EGCG) gives a small but significant increase in 24 hour metabolic rate. It would take 3-4 strong cups of green tea to get the necessary amount, 270-300 mg of EGCG, or it can also be obtained from green tea extract supplements.

All right, here comes another math:
If one maintains the same lifestyle and food intake over a year, but adding five cups of green tea to their diet per day.


One can lose
1 pound in the course of 43 days, or
8 pounds in one year.


Clearly, drinking green tea alone is not going to be satisfactory for significant weight loss. However, green tea is still useful as a weight loss aid with its other goodness, for example, it is a good anti-oxidant helps to take years off from your face and body.

Considering this, by just drinking green tea, you can burn extra 80 calories per day can be just what a person needs to tip the scale from a calorie surplus to a calorie reduction, the end result  can be better off when following a balanced nutrition and exercise regime.
